Upcoming Workshop on Trauma Informed Care

October 24, 2016 @ 3:20 PM - 5:00 PM EDT

Trauma Informed Care is is an organizational structure and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. Dr. Christina Watlington will be presenting at the International Institute for Restorative Practices (IIRP)Conference.  The workshop is about understanding the behavior of our youth through a restorative and trauma-informed lens.

Workshop Summary:

There is a lot of talk about trauma-informed care and restorative practices, but what do they really mean? What does a school or community look like when it embraces a restorative and trauma-informed approach? The presenters will provide an understanding of the impact of trauma on our youths’ behaviors, discuss practices that schools and communities can implement to be trauma-informed and challenge our beliefs about why youth “act-up,” thereby helping staff to approach disciplinary practices more restoratively. This fun and interactive workshop is intended for those working with youth who want to know about the relationship between trauma-informed care and restorative practices and the impact that they can have on the lives of those they serve.
